ENHANCED CURRICULA
LOVE AND CARE
We believe that academics are incomplete without an integration
of Love and Care. We foster these ideals daily. Spiritual
learning is promoted via:
Worship. Praise and awareness of God is a vital ingredient
of our total curriculum. Friday chapels in the church
auditorium with the whole student body include spirited
singing and
Bible lessons and stories by ministers from local churches
and other guests. On occasion, middle school participants
will have their own chapel services.
Bible. Scripture memorization and daily devotions are
included in each classroom. The classroom Bible curriculum
is nondenominational
and establishes the authority of God's Word. The lessons
build lifetime personal Bible study skills and emphasize
Christian living.
Service. Teachers will encourage one or more school and/or
service projects each year.
OTHER ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS
Foreign
Language. A foreign language is taught once a
week to all grades. More intensive study is offered to
7th and 8th Grade students. After successful completion
of Spanish 1A and 1B in Middle School, students should
be ready for Spanish II when they enter high school.
Computer. Computer classes are offered to all grades once
a week. Students are exposed to educational programs
and word processing.
Art. Art is expressed in a variety of modes in each classroom.
It is also taught formally by our art teacher.
Music. Each class has weekly music sessions,
learning a variety of songs, different composers, and about
notes
and rhythm patterns. Students in Grades 2-5 who elect to
join the Children’s Chorus practice weekly after
school and perform at Christmas, the spring concert, and
compete at Kings Dominion Chorus Festival. Middle school
singers have similar options. Private instruction in string
instruments is offered by Mrs. Mahone for Grades 4-8. Band
instruction for the same ages is offered through Newsom
Music. An instrumental ensemble depends on available participants.
Library.
Students learn library skills and broaden their knowledge
and experience through a variety of reading
materials. Accelerated Reader program is available to build
comprehension
skills and the joy of reading. Middle School students
utilize Public Library resources on a weekly basis, developing
research and literary skills.
Physical
Education. The physical education program includes
organized activities to help students develop skills
important to their physical growth. We participate in the
Physical
Best Program at several grade levels, including mile
run, pull-ups, etc.
Interscholastic
Athletics. The Peninsula Coed League offers
competition with other schools in soccer, basketball,
and volleyball. All Middle School students are invited to
try
out for the respective teams. Players who are selected
for the team, pay a participation fee.
